As the global population ages, the physical and mental well-being of independent elderly individuals has become a significant concern. In response, I have undertaken the creation of an application to assist them in emergency situations and to enrich their retirement experience, potentially enabling them to embark on new career paths.

DEVELOPMENT
PROCESS
This project constitutes a pivotal part of my Master's degree program, involving a range of essential elements like a proposal, user research, information architecture, prototype, and more. PROPOSAL
Based on extensive secondary research, I've identified that many elders prefer support from their close network, and retirees often face isolation or technological skill-related challenges. To address these issues, I propose a Community Supportive App. This app aims to connect elders with their neighbors, friends, and relatives, fostering communities for emergency help, local events, social interactions, and skill sharing. It will form a robust network involving families, friends, neighbors, and local elderly non-profit organizations.

RESEARCH
I conducted video interviews with three participants to explore retirees' leisure activities, ideal retirement lifestyles, help-seeking habits, and social connections. Despite the diversity in their ideal retirement lifestyles, all participants engaged in simple exercises like walking and expressed a desire for increased family and friend interactions. Most were keen on sharing their skills. Notably, younger elders favor modern social media, while older individuals lean towards traditional channels like email and phone calls for seeking assistance.
DESIGN
PRINCIPLES
After analyzing user research notes and findings, I created two personas and user journey maps. This informed and guided the subsequent formulation of design principles which was focused on the needs of the elderly users. They are also aligned with the platform's overall goal, which is to provide a supportive and engaging social experience for seniors.
CONNECT
Local interactions, online and real-world, through a stable social platform.
SUPPORT
My platform encourages users sharing knowledge and skill , and offers a dedicated help button, particularly beneficial for our senior members.
VARIETY
Diverse communication channels: video, text, voice, vibration, sounds, classes.
SIMPLICITY
Elder-friendly design: readability, navigation, ease of use.
INFORM
Provide users with informative content categories. Covering Education, Chat, Help, Job Info, and local news.
