The previous version to the final version
Overview
The UX design and interface redesign of the Alchemist website was my first project after graduation. The website focuses on algorithm and data structure learning.

Despite limited user research, I significantly improved the learning experience for software developers and computer science students. Through stakeholder engagement, competitor analysis, and user insights, I optimized search functionality, introduced valuable features, and redesigned the UI. The result is an enhanced platform that facilitates effective learning.

Improvement
Process

The process of improving the Alchemist website involved a comprehensive approach.

It began with a kickoff meeting to understand stakeholder's expectations and the website. Problems with the website were identified through competitive analysis, user interviews, and usability tests. Based on the findings from the user interviews, two personas and a user journey map were created to guide the redesign decisions. A set of redesign principles was established, emphasizing an effective learning experience and a concise design.

Subsequently, a low-fidelity prototype was created and tested with the two users, and it was modified based on their feedback. Finally, a high-fidelity interactive prototype was developed.

Kickoff Meeting
During the kickoff meeting, the stakeholder conveyed their vision for an overall UX design that embraces minimalist aesthetics. They emphasized the significance of maintaining a clean and uncluttered website design. Initially, the stakeholder was hesitant about conducting user research. However, I emphasized the importance of user research in informing design decisions and ultimately gained permission to conduct user research and testing with two target users. This user-centered approach will enable us to gather valuable insights and ensure the design effectively meets the needs of the users.

Competitive Analysis
Identified areas for improvement
After thoroughly analyzing visualization algorithm competitors, including Leetcode, Visualgo, and Data Structure Visualizations, I found that Alchemist offers concise features, minimal visual design, and real-time practice functionality. However, I identified areas for improvement, such as clearer icon tooltips and content explanations, as well as the need to redesign the visual system. Additionally, including quizzes with each question can further consolidate the understanding and application of the algorithms.

Stakeholder emphasized that the design should be practical and concise, avoiding over decoration.
